Vernon Rudolph, the founder of Krispy Kreme, started the business in 1933 by purchasing a donut store from a French chef in Paducah, Kentucky. Rudolph not only bought the store but also the still-top-secret yeast donut recipe.

After a few disappointments, Rudolph and his two employees rented a building in Winston-Salem with the last $25 they had and began making donuts with ingredients they borrowed from the grocery store. For a while, they served homes with a 1936 Pontiac. Soon people started coming to the production building and asking if they could buy hot, fresh donuts. The demand was so great that Rudolph and his friends decided to cut a hole in the wall of the building and sell. This innovation marked the beginning of Krispy Kreme's window selling tradition, and in-store sales started on July 13, 1937.

With the master franchise agreement made by Qatar-based Almana Group with Krispy Kreme in 2008, Krispy Kreme Turkey started to serve by opening its first store in 2009.

Today, Krispy Kreme produces over 10 million donuts daily with over 1400 stores in 32 countries.
